Position: Setter / Outside Hitter
I began my volleyball career my first year in high school. To this day, I don't remember what it is that encouraged me to try out but I did. I came onto the team knowing absolutely nothing about volleyball. Not the rules, the skills or even the confidence it takes to be an athlete. It took me most of the season to adjust to every single rule and regulation. Throughout the season my skills progressed and helped me transition from one position to the other. I started playing as a passer in the back row and eventually I became a setter. Everyday at practice, I challenged myself. Drill after drill, I was motivated to keep working hard. Everything paid off when I became one of the outside hitters where I remained for most of the season. After our season was over, I got the chance to practice with tougher and more experienced players; with boys. Although we had many tough girls, the boys helped me the most because they naturally are stronger, rough and they hit harder. Being able to dig their harder hits helped me prepare for the next girls season because it helped me control my passes and helped me to be less intimidated by bigger players.
